On 27th January 2024 Tallis remembers Holocaust Memorial Day.
During the week beginning 22nd Janiary 2024 students will be considering their reflections on Holocaust Remembrance and the importance of celebrating diversity and exercising tolerance in our school and wider communities. The following four points outline what you are guided to do.
1 Students should watch and consider the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust ; Learning from the Past video before watching and considering Mr O'Halloran's Holocaust Remembrance Day Assembly on the PowerPoint below. Students should think hard about what they have learnt about Holocaust and Genocide remembrance and the reasons why it is important to celebrate diversity.
2 During the week leading up to Saturday 27th January many organisations and the country at large will be remembering the 79th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the Holocaust more generally. Students should think hard and make a connection between this remembrance and why it is important. Consider what Tallis students have said in previous years.
3 Students should watch and think about the "Stopping Hate Speech" video.
4 Finally whilst your thinking enjoy a performance of ‘Benedictus’, from The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins.

Mr O'Halloran Holocaust Remembrance Day Assemblies
This year's theme is Fragility of Freedom. Mr O'Halloran will be giving a presentation in all Year 7-11 Assemblies. Freedom means different things to different people. What is clear is that in every genocide that has taken place, those who are targeted for persecution have had their freedom restricted and removed, before many of them are murdered. Freedom is fragile and it cannot be taken for granted. Mr O'Halloran will be revealing some examples of ways in which the freedoms of people targeted during genocides are restricted, showing how fragile freedom is and how we must not be complacent about them.

4 Finally here is a performance of ‘Benedictus’, from The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins. It pays homage to the victims of the Kosovo crisis, and is in truth an ‘anti-war’ piece. It seems appropriate as an homage to victims of conflict. We hope you enjoy it, that it helps you think hard about Holocaust remembrance and that it offers inspiration for bringing your Holocaust Remembrance Day Activities to a close.
