Year 10 visit to the Imperial War Museum July 2015
In the first week of July 2015 all four Year 10 History groups took part in a day trip to consolidate their knowledge and understanding of Units 2 of the Edexcel GCSE SHP examined units and to practise their Tallis Habits. Destination Imperial War Museum courtesy of Network Southeast.
At the Imperial War Museum and assisted by the brilliant education staff there, a special investigation into a unique collection of historical documents was conducted to reveal the story of Walter Lehman who had an American pen friend and received his letters from 1936-39. Walters letters reveal stories regarding his work, his attitude to Hitler and the Jews, and to Nazi policies in the late 1930's. Walter became increasingly convinced of the policies of Hitler and the policy of expanding German control of Europe through war. He fulfilled his desire to join the Luftwaffe and died in action in 1943. A range of additional documents were used to supplement students understanding of the key issues including Nazi film, sound archives, photographs, posters and Newspaper articles. Furthermore there was a visit to the brilliantly thought provoking Holocaust Gallery to investigate the development of anti-semitism and the Nazi Racial state. Bring on the Unit 2 exam on Germany 1918-45 next academic year. |
