Supporting Home Learning in Enquiry. Paper 2, Option 2 C.2: Russia in Revolution, 1894–1924
The period 1894-1924 was a tumultuous one in the governance of the Russian Empire. Tsarist governance from 1894-February 1917 grappled with the plethora of complexities in governing such a diverse Empire. Reaction provoked existing opposition whilst reform expanded opposition further. The temporary unity created on the outbreak of the First World War in 1914 was shattered by this opposition in the First Revolution of the Provisional Government in February 1917. Its subsequent failure resulted in a Second Revolution by the Bolsheviks in October 1917. The period October 1917-1924 witnessed the withdrawal from the First World War, the onset of the civil war and the victory and consolidation of Bolshevik power by 1924. |

The Russian Revolution Docudrama
Russia’s two revolutions – in February and October 1917, collectively known as ‘The Russian Revolution’, changed Russia beyond recognition. The February Revolution dismantled the Tsarist autocracy and forced the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II, ending the imperial Romanov dynasty that had ruled the country for over three hundred years. A few months later in October, Russia was to face a further shock - another revolution. This epic series, using a stunning mixture of CGI, dramatic reconstruction scenes and unique historic library footage, commemorates the centenary of these two most crucial events in Russian history - the February and the October Revolutions.
